I am running Win XP Pro Ser. Pack 3 on both computers.  I can't access my My Documents folder, or anything in it.  However, I can access my folder where my scans get dumped on my hard drive.  It is telling me that the folder "is not accessible.  you might not have permission to use this network resource.  contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions."  What gives.  I have enabled the remote file sharing and have shared the contents of my entire hard drive.  I do notice that subfolders contained in the folders are listed as do not share currently.  I really need to get in my documents b/c that is the reason I need the VPN.  What am I not getting about the permissions.  I know the connection is working but I have something screwy going on with permissions.  Thanks for the replies!!

Hi,

That is because the Windows user you are using on your local computer doesn't exist on the remote computer.
When you share a drive, it is normally shared for "All Users", meaning all users defined on the computer.

Check what specific shared permissions are set on your other folder (the one you can access), it is possible that it also has the "Guest" account authorized.
If the "Guest" account is authorized, then even unknown users (to the local computer) are allowed to see the files.

The other option for you would be to "Map a drive", because you would then be abe to specify the user/password you want to use.
This is described on the following guide:
Map a remote network drive or folder

Let us know how that goes,
