Remote Screen over WallCooler VPN using VNC
WallCoolerVPN allows you to access any resource on a remote network by just installing a software on each side.
Once connected with WallCooler, you can for instance control computers remotely using Windows Remote Desktop (RDP). RDP is usually great choice for accessing computers remotely because it is a part of Windows.
In some cases however, RDP is not the appropriate choice:
- XP Home or Vista Home edition: Remote Desktop is not supported on Home editions
- Need multiple users to be able to see the same screen at the same time
- Need people sitting in front of the remote computer to see what you are doing on the screen
In those cases, any other Remote Screen software can be used instead of RDP.
UltraVNC is an alternative to Remote Desktop as it free and easy to install.
This article describes how to use UltraVNC instead of Remote Desktop when connected with WallCoolerVPN.
Follow these instructions on any computer you need to access remotely without using Remote Desktop.
Users with WallCooler Professional or Enterprise services can VNC any computer on the remote network (providing VNC is installed on those computers).
Note: You also need to install UltraVNC on computers from which you want to establish the connection to the remote computer (although you only need UltraVNC Viewer)
1. Download UltraVNC
UltraVNC is free, click here to download UltraVNC.
Once the download is complete, run the installer and follow the installer instructions.
2. Install UltraVNC
Choose the Full installation option
Check “Download Vista addons files now” (Vista Only)
Check “Download the mirror driver”
Check “Register UltraVNC Server as a system service”
Check “Start or restart UltraVNC service”
Proceed with the rest of the install.
3. Setup UltraVNC
Open UltraVNC Properties
In Windows Systray (bottom right of the screen), right click on the “WinVNC” icon and select “Admin Properties”.
Set UltraVNC Password
In “VNC Password:” enter the password you want to use to connect to that computer
(you will be asked for it anytime you want to connect to the computer using UltraVNC)
Click OK
Your computer can now be accessed remotely using Ultra VNC (through WallCooler if you are not on the same network).
4. Connect using UltraVNC over WallCooler VPN
Check WallCooler Connection
Open WallCooler, check that a connection to the remote computer/network is established (if not, just sign-in or connect).
You should have a connection like this:

Open UltraVNC Viewer
Goto “Start->All Programs->UltraVNC->Ultra VNC Viewer”.
The UltraVNC viewer will appear.
Enter the remote computer name or IP address (see previous WallCooler screenshot to locate the remote computer name or address)
Note: Select MEDIUM (128-256Kbit/s) for better response time.
VNC Authentication
In the authentication dialog, enter the password you configured during UltraVNC installation on the remote computer.
Click on Log On
